02/25/2007 - Corvallis, OR (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Mac Hopson scored on a jump shot with 35.5 seconds left, as the ninth- ranked Washington State Cougars, fresh off a disappointing loss, bounced back to top the Oregon State Beavers, 58-54, in a Pac-10 Conference clash.

Aron Baynes scored 14 points for Washington State (23-5, 12-4 Pac-10), which dropped a 64-59 decision to Oregon on Thursday, halting a five-game winning streak and reducing its chances of catching UCLA in the conference race. Robbie Cowgill added 12 points in the win.

Marcel Jones scored 16 points for Oregon State (11-19, 3-14), which was coming off a 73-65 triumph over Washington on Thursday and has lost three of its last four. Sasa Cuic added 12 points in the loss.

Baynes netted eight straight points late in the second half to push the Cougars ahead by two, 47-45. The Beavers later tied the score at 54 on Wesley Washington's layup with just over a minute left, but Hopson's jumper put WSU ahead for good.

Josh Tarver attempted a three-pointer in the final seconds but missed, and Baynes' two free throws with 8.7 seconds left sealed the win for the Cougars.

The Beavers started strong, taking an early 10-3 lead, and held a 32-27 halftime advantage.

Washington State shot 21-for-42 (50 percent) from the field, compared to 18- for-48 (38 percent) by Oregon State, which outrebounded the Cougars 34-30.

Game Notes

Washington State recorded a 70-55 victory over Oregon State back on January 25th, also overshadowing the fact that the Beavers own a 161-113 advantage in the all-time series.
